The Story

The nagamaki (長捲), literally "long wrapping") is a type of traditionally made Japanese sword with an extra long handle, used by the samurai class of feudal Japan. The nagamaki is designed for large sweeping and slicing strokes. its also works as a spear. Traditionally, it was used as infantry weapon. Warriors used the weapon against horsemen. 

The nagamaki were first produced during the Heian period (794 to 1185) During the middle of the Muromachi period (1336-1573 A.D. )the nagamaki reach its peak of usage. The famed warlord Uesugi Kenshin, daimyo of Echigo province, is said to have had a special guard of retainers armed with nagamaki.

Musashi's Nagamaki was developed with the US Kempo Team. Team leader, Shihan Robert Zingg, used it to win Silver Medal at the 2015 World Kempo Competition in Turkey.
